Corriere della Sera today publishes a heartfelt letter Adriano Celentano Eluana's father, the girl in a coma, at the center, despite his fatal of a dispute the legitimacy of euthanasia.
I do not have a clear opinion on euthanasia, I believe strongly in life as a central principle of any ethical discourse and supporting (by, for example, my radical animal rights), however, in most cases where the problem of 'euthanasia comes to the fore in the news, I tend to sympathize with the feelings of humanity and the strong who decide to 'switch off'. Well, I do not know where to stay, but if I were forced to a choice (other than 'case') I think I supported them.
This, however, has little to do with why I write this post, which actually refers to a specific passage from the letter of suspension, only indirectly related to the problem of euthanasia. I quote:
"I admire so Giuliano Ferrara for his fight for life and hope, while understanding his state of mind, Mr Englaro, the bottles of water in the Piazza del Duomo increase. Increase to increase the doubt . The question in those who believe they do not have doubts and then to discard a priori the possibility of another life beyond this earthly one. A different life where there are no lies and accidents but one game and Love. That love that his beloved daughter has not had time to learn. And here, just for a moment, I would put myself in the shoes of those who believes and is saddened by the sad fate of a daughter. So I wonder if sometimes, especially in cases like these, one that is not believed to be the doubt that perhaps there might be something that really goes beyond the aridity of this fleeting moment spent on earth. "
Forget the 'admiration for Giuliano Ferrara, not least of which I can respect the courage. I am a proud member of the AU, and I think I've expressed my atheism on several occasions. I am therefore, I think, aware of the terms of the debate between atheists and believers. Well, dear Celentano, if there is a dichotomy for which the consensus is almost unanimous doubt this is the axis-certainties. On the one hand (the doubts) are atheists, on the other (the certainty) the believers. Dear
Celentano, YOU believe that you need to doubt it, not us atheists. WE are the ones who doubt since the dawn of time, and seek to effectively investigate the real reasons for the origin of life, and other matters on which you have not the slightest doubt in reality.
YOU are the ones doubting that sent them at the stake, or they scomunicavano, o in generale li facevano pentire di essere nati.
