Restauro: Considerare la bellezza del manufatto con la sua patina storica o rifarlo affinché sembri nuovo?

Some time ago I found myself in a discussion on Facebook about the restoration of the Terme del Corallo in Livorno.
after some time I would take inspiration from that discussion to talk about restoration, a delicate discipline that covers architects and preservation of historical heritage, and I think I will take up this subject in a series of posts.
In this post I will speak of my feelings about Acuna Restoration of monuments and archaeological sites that I have seen up close during a few trips I made.
not feel I would like to explain the whole theory of the Restoration, but I think it is fair to give a brief history.

Today the words Restoration, Renovation and Conservation have become part of everyday life, but how much you really know about these concepts?
And indeed all specialists in the field can boast of their professionalism when they have to do with the restoration?

speak today about Restoration means taking note of the different theories that have followed or crossed over the centuries, there have been many rumors antagonistic, many historians have resulted in conflicting treaties, this has meant that now the Restoration is a discipline that is supported by actions clearly in conflict with each other. Originally

Restoration was only seen as a kind of building maintenance.
is beginning at the end of '700-800 that has begun to see the restoration from the point of view of preservation of the building. In this period there have been several important members of this dsciplina, each of them has made some innovative concepts and theories in the field, but there has never been an objective view and that general area.
There were two trends in the Restoration, one that tended to "Restoration style," a restoration of good architectural renovation and replacing the missing parts, between the exponents of this type of intervention should be mentioned Viollet-Le-Duc, a ' other form of preferred restoration action that was different, that is, the missing parts had to be noticed.
These two theories are countered the ideas of Ruskin and Morris historians who were against the restoration, as it damaged the building, and aesthetically not noted as the patina of time and the only authentic parts.

The 800 marked the Guidelines for the Restoration and up to now have followed other major figures who have pleaded for the conservation of one kind or another, with some innovations as did the Historical Restoration Giovannoni having split into several categories, classifying it as needed. According to his theory we have such a consolidation of Restoration, which aims to static structural building or a restoration that removes all the additions, non-original parts added over the centuries the building that change the appearance, and again, a complete restoration of the parts used to replace lost parts recognizable.
In short, our architectural heritage have been part of this discipline and multiple interventions almost always contradict each other. Nowadays it is practically difficult to find an architectural work well restored, unfortunately there are also half of political and economic conflicts, which create more problems around this framework.

But now we begin to talk about the Liberty complex of Terme del Corallo in Livorno, which I mentioned at the beginning, like many an example of an artifact storico fatiscente del nostro Paese, abbandonato a se stesso.

Bisogna cercare di capire la fatiscenza del bene architettonico from what follows, if it is just a historical film that has been created with the passing years and the actions that the artifact has been, or if there was a degeneration because of environmental reasons, or if events such as war etc.. have altered its appearance.

necessary to see the structural conditions in which pay, whether the vegetation may have affected the framework with roots in short, to take note and be aware of the kind of intervention that will be adopted. We must pay more attention to the types of plaster or paint that utilizando, to pay attention even necessarily want to redo the frescoes. An architectural work with its patina of history is very suggestive so as it appears, one should try to take action as unobtrusive as possible, to continue to read and to appreciate the historical era in which it lived.

For those who have been attracted by these preliminary thoughts, I will continue the discussion in others, the next post.
